The South African government is continuing its work in facilitating the safe return of foreign nationals to their respective home countries.

South African Justice Minister and Inter-Ministerial Committee chairperson Mmamoloko Kubayi made this assurance at a recent media briefing in Johannesburg.

Guided by the five-point plan on managing migration unveiled by President Cyril Ramaphosa recently, Kubayi said principles of human rights and dignity are being respected in the process.

In addition to the repatriation, Kubayi said the normal immigration deportation processes are continuing.

"We have seen a tremendous increase in the number of foreign nationals that have either been deported or repatriated. To date (close of business on July 11, 2026), a total of 53,449 foreign nationals have been processed for deportation and repatriation, which is dominated by Malawians, followed by Zimbabweans and Mozambicans."

From scouring the neighbourhood for illegal immigrants to street marches, threats and attacks on foreign nationals, South African nationals have vowed to drive away undocumented migrants from the country.
