The man accused of fatally shooting 39-year-old Rachel Frans on Friday in Havana made his first appearance in the Katutura Magistrate's Court on Monday, as police continued investigating several violent crimes reported over the weekend.

41-year-old Benong Urikhob faces charges of murder, possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence. 

The court postponed the matter to 8 September, 2026 for a formal bail application, and he remains in custody.
Frans, a mother of three, was allegedly shot dead inside her Havana home on Friday. 
She was discovered by her 14-year-old daughter. 

Family members say Frans had previously opened a case against Urikhob and had allegedly endured repeated abuse and death threats during their relationship. 
The two had been in a relationship since 2019 and shared a young child.

In a separate incident, a 50-year-old man was shot and killed during an alleged gunfight with a suspect near Soweto Market in Wanaheda late Friday night. The suspect has been arrested, while the motive for the shooting remains under police investigation.

Meanwhile, police are also investigating an attempted murder in Otjomuise, where a 37-year-old man sustained serious injuries after allegedly being stabbed with a broken bottle in the early hours of Friday. 
No arrests have been made, and investigations continue.
