Kufamosha Information Disability Center Spokesperson Wilhelmina Kashima said some families still hide relatives with disabilities by keeping them at home and not exposing them to the outside world.

She was speaking during the opening ceremony of the Kufamosha Expo at Oshifukwa in the Oshikoto Region.

Kashima said the centre identifies those with disabilities and makes them part of their team, where they become productive.

"This centre meets the government halfway to identify those with disabilities by helping them and donating items like today. Some families still hide relatives who are differently abled."

The centre equips its members with different skills, including music and acting, among others.

" I am calling on well wishers to fund or sponsor the centre with  permanent accomodation as the current one which is home to 13 people is a rental property that is paid N$ 1000 dollars monthly amounting to N$12,000 annually. We also need a vehicle to transport us when we have a sick member."

This is what some had to say about the role of the centre in their lives.

"I did not know how to sing that well, but I learned here. I learned so much at this centre about how to make crafted products with beads. I also learned how to handle differences about people with different characters."

"I joined the centre in 2023, I started composing my music, and Tate Makiti was helping me produce my music. I first heard about the centre on radio and jotted his number to reach out to him that I was interested in joining the team."

The expo aims to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and will conclude on 2 August.
The Disability Center was established in 2020 by Petrus Theofelus.
