For many years, rural schools were left behind in digital learning.

This is now changing, as more schools invest in computer labs and adapt to curriculum changes that include ICT as a subject.

Oshilungi Combined School in the Oshikoto Region is one of the latest beneficiaries of ICT equipment following a donation of six laptops courtesy of Brama Brama Fishing Company to improve digital learning.

The laptops, worth N$60,000 will be an addition to the eight desktop computers and one laptop at the school.

Chairperson of Brama Brama Fishing Company Patrick Xoagub explained.

“It is our sincere hope that these laptops will empower learners to embrace the digital age, strengthen their research capabilities, develop critical digital skills and unlock opportunities for innovation and lifelong learning.”

Oshikoto Chief Education Officer, Thomas Kalimbo expressed gratitude for the gesture.

“In today's rapidly evolving digital world, access to technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity. The donation of six laptop computers to the school demonstrates a clear commitment to improving educational outcomes and preparing our learners and teachers for the demand of the fourth industrial revolution.”

Oshilungi Combined School Principal, Esther Hatutale also commended the community for raising funds to construct the computer lab.

The construction started last year and is nearing completion.

The Naakambo family, that is part of those named after school blocks, also made a donation of three storage steel shelves worth N$20,000.

The 66 year old school has a capacity of 585 learners and 24 teachers, offering education from pre-primary to Grade 10.

It will be upgrade to Grade 11 next year.
