Through providing meals on Saturdays, Keetmanshoop resident Eveline Kröhne has turned her home into a place of care and nourishment for vulnerable children.

Kröhne describes food as more than nourishment, which gives hope and strength to vulnerable children to learn, heal and dream of a better future.

Affectionately known as Minky, she relies on donors to offer the meals to vulnerable children and struggling families.

“I can easily provide a meal to up to 200 or 300 children on a given day. Good Samaritans also donate chips and lollipops, so the children receive something sweet to take home with their meal. receive something sweet when they go home with the meal. We asked them to bring a container with a lid in which they receive their meal to take home. Some children, however, prefer to eat here, as you know they would have to share with others once they get home.”

Kröhne also helped restore dignity among vulnerable children by sourcing donations and school uniforms for those in need.

The elderly also benefit from her generosity.

Kröhne shared her dream to establish a shelter where children can live, learn and receive the care and support they need.

‘I would really like to see the Kharas business community, such as businesses in Lüderitz, the mining sector and crop producers down here, lend a helping hand and plough back into the community. With their support, we could establish something meaningful here in Keetmanshoop. I have a plot where I want to set up a shelter, but I am currently not financially able to develop it. My dream is to build a safe shelter there for children in need.”

Kröhne expressed gratitude to those whose continuous generosity has helped sustain her endeavours to care and support the vulnerable community.
