The Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Emma Theofelus, paid a precursor visit to the office of the ||Kharas Governor Dawid Gertze.

Minister Theofelus's visit seeks to understand ICT infrastructure challenges in the region and improve on expanding network connectivity and strengthening digital services and address the issue surrounding cybercrime.

Equally, the minister briefed the governor on infrastructure sharing policy and the ministry's strategic plans.

"From the outside as a ministry, through our strategic plan and our digital and our digital and our digital transformation agenda, we looked at how we can help regions close the digital divide and make sure we have the necessary technical expertise on the ground for that."

||Kharas Governor Dawid Gertze expressed concern over a lack of communication towers along the route between Aus and Lüderitz, an area he described as a major safety concern for tourism and emergency services.

Moreover, there is raised concern over poor radio coverage, especially in the Berseba district.

"With our tourism routes mainly from Aus to Lüderitz, the gap is quite challenging. If anything could happen along the route between Aus and Lüderitz, in many instances it could be catastrophic, so there is a need for a tower to be put up there. I think Kaisames for Berseba and the surrounding areas has been a problem for the last 4 or 5 years, and I think here is a tower on top of Brukkaros mountain. They were last apparently told that there is a certain equipment that needs to be placed, and it's difficult to get up there."

Other connectivity challenges were also mentioned in the meeting, such as the border posts, clinics, and hospitals, with some areas experiencing unreliable internet despite having communication towers.
The minister said she would look into the concerns.
