More than 100 young players from schools across Windhoek competed in the sixth edition of the ArySteq Asset Management and Simonis Storm Schools Table Tennis Series over the weekend.

The tournament was hosted at Havana High School, where players from the Under-11 to Under-19 age groups tested their skills while gaining valuable competitive experience.

The Schools Table Tennis Series was introduced to provide young players with regular competition and strengthen the development of the sport at grassroots level.

Now in its sixth edition, the tournament attracted more than 100 participants, reflecting growing interest in table tennis among school-going players.

For the first time, organisers moved the tournament to Havana High School, where the larger venue provided more space to accommodate the increasing number of participants.

Namibia Table Tennis Association President Rudi Saunderson highlighted that competitions of this nature play an important role in identifying and developing young talent, while creating a pathway for players to progress in the sport.

Young players also welcomed the opportunity to compete against opponents from different schools, with some participating in the series for the first time.

Waldorf School Windhoek Under-13 player Nderingo Kuteeue noted that for newcomers, the tournament offered valuable competitive experience and an opportunity to assess their skills against players from other schools.

As participation continues to grow, organisers said the focus remains on exposing more young people to table tennis and strengthening the sport's development at school and grassroots level.
