The National Assembly has approved the appointment of four new members to the Land Reform Advisory Commission who will serve for a period of three years.

The members called on the new committee members to track progress of how the land is utilised to ensure productivity, as it could be a dynamic driver of economic growth and food security in the country.
The new members are Cardini Roman, Jeaneth Kuhanga,  Mona-Lisa McKay and Ermelinda Tjimune. 
NDP Leader Lukato Lukato stated that there must be individuals who, in the opinion of the minister, are suitably qualified with respect to the specific functions of the commission, possessing relevant skills or backgrounds in agriculture.

PDM Member of Parliament Diederik Vries stressed that the public must have confidence that the Commission operates according to objective criteria and that its recommendations are based on evidence rather than personal, political, or other inappropriate considerations.

IPC Member of Parliament Abed Hishoono added that representation alone is not enough, noting to the Honorable Speaker that the people appointed must be independent, credible, and committed to administering land fairly.

AR Member of Parliament Esther Haikola-Sakaria questioned the current framework, asking whether Namibia has a land performance system to track, evaluate, and enforce the post-acquisition productivity and socioeconomic impact of redistributed land.

IPC Member of Parliament Nelson Kalangula emphasised that advisory oversight must encompass post-allocation sustainability, declaring that acquiring the land is only half of the journey and productivity remains the ultimate goal.

Swapo Party Member of Parliament Sophia Shaningwa argued that the appointment of these commissioners is necessary to restore the Commission to its full functionalities and enable this important work to proceed.

Information and Communication Technology Minister Emma Theofelus concluded the debate by noting that the Commission serves as a vital link between official policy goals and fair land distribution in the country.
