The Khomas Regional Council has launched a Sustainability, Green Growth and Circular Economy Roadmap aimed at improving waste management, creating jobs, attracting investment and strengthening the region’s climate resilience.
Speaking at the launch, Khomas Governor Sam Nujoma said creating a conducive environment for investment and business growth is key to Namibia’s economic progress.
He stressed the need for stronger government support, international partnerships and national stability to unlock investment and advance sustainable development.
Sustainability advocate Maria Shimhanda said Khomas continues to face challenges including poor waste management, limited data and policy gaps.
She said better waste diversion and a stronger circular economy could turn environmental challenges into economic opportunities.
The event also brought together stakeholders from government, business and communities, with South African companies RevoBloc and SoluNova showcasing solutions as they explore expanding into Namibia.
Meanwhile, the Namibia Rethink Waste Greencycle Expo will take place on 8 and 9 October at the Mondesa Multipurpose Hall in Swakopmund under the theme “Proof of Impact.”
The expo will focus on practical solutions to Namibia’s waste management challenges.
