Alpha Sampofu Combined School held a wellness and team-building activity to mark Teachers' Day, bringing together educators from different schools to promote healthy living and teamwork.

The initiative sought to encourage teachers to prioritise their overall well-being and recognise the demands of the teaching profession.

Wellness Committee member Mwezi Mukowa says educators often focus on developing learners while neglecting their own well-being.

"For us to be able to do better, to work better, to develop the learners, we need to be physically, mentally and socially healthy, so today we are trying to encourage a new culture to take care of ourselves or our wellbeing so that we are able to deliver better or be in a state of mind or state of set to be able to help and develop and give better results."

The event also created an opportunity for teachers from different schools to exchange ideas and strengthen professional relationships.

Teacher Elizabeth Simasiku welcomed the turnout, noting that the activity attracted participants beyond the host school.

"I'm very happy. Since it's our first time doing it at our school, I'm very happy, yes, and I appreciate that NBC is here as well. We thought we must just start as a team of Alufea, but within the colleagues that you see, there are some people from different schools. I saw one from Brendan Simbwaye and from different schools."

Simasiku said the initiative was organised at school level, with the Ministry of Education providing wellness information, learning materials and a workshop.

The committee is considering making the event an annual initiative and expanding participation to more schools and stakeholders, depending on its impact.
