The NBC and Namib Desert Diamonds (NAMDIA) have been exploring opportunities for collaboration in storytelling to highlight the impact of social investment initiatives.
The potential areas of collaboration were discussed during a courtesy visit by NAMDIA's Acting Chief Executive Officer to the NBC's Director-General Menesia Muinjo.
The two entities explored potential areas of collaboration in telling Namibia's diamond stories through filmmaking, as well as investments in sport and skills development.
NAMDIA emphasised the need to bring greater visibility to the impact of its social investments, as these often go unnoticed.
The partnership is therefore meant to showcase Namdia's initiatives and demonstrate its contribution to national development.
“People are not really interested in knowing that you have donated something to a clinic; they are more interested in knowing how the donation benefits the recipients. This highlights the importance of two-tier storytelling when covering a particular initiative. For example, you would first report on the donation, but you must return later to assess how it has affected the community,” stated NAMDIA Public Officer Beverley Coussement.
NAMDIA’s Acting CEO, Lelly Usiku also stressed the need to educate Namibians on the value of the diamond industry and the economic pressures that the industry is currently facing.
NBC Director General Menesia Muinjo, underscored the important role of collaboration and telling Namibian stories through the broadcaster.
“it is a mammoth task, but with the support that you are giving us now, things become really a little bit lighter, because it's partnerships and collaborations that make things happen."
