Pastors contributing devotions to NBC Radio Wato in Rundu want to see dedicated support for religious programmes.

The call was made during an engagement with the NBC leadership.

There are 26 pastors who contribute devotions to the Wato FM, and those in attendance want devotions to speak to issues affecting daily lives.

Bishop Magreth Da Rocha is a devotion contributor.

"People are being killed. People are doing suicide. How can we change? We need to do something to change our sermon."

In response to the call for dedicated religious programmes, NBC's Director General Menesia Muinjo explained that currently some radio stations lack dedicated religious radio producers.

This is in addition to efforts to accommodate different beliefs and improved programmes.

"It's to improve what we are doing. So one risk that I'm already seeing from our side is that we do not have dedicated religious producers for radio. We don't have. Maybe some stations have, but I know like television has, for example, with the introduction of those programmes like A New Season or Rooted, they have those producers and they are having a young pastor, for example, or a young person who is dealing with that programme."

The NBC delegation also met the Shambyu Traditional Authority, which called on the broadcaster to preserve cultural heritage.

"Radio and TV should profile traditional activities and archive them for the future and should broadcast them to educate people, especially the younger generation who are slowly forgetting their cultural and traditional customs," said Hompa of the Shambyu Traditional Authority, Sofia Mundjembwe.

The stakeholder engagements were aimed at assessing programming effectiveness and ensuring that the corporation's content continues to serve communities.
