Two people died after a zinc-sheet dwelling they were sleeping in caught fire at a homestead in Chotto Location in Katima Mulilo at around 04H00 on Friday morning.
By the time police arrived, the fire had already been extinguished by family members and the fire brigade.
The children who were sleeping in a separate house within the same yard allegedly smelled smoke and alerted the elders, who were sleeping in another house.
When the elders woke up, they noticed that the small zinc-sheet dwelling, where the two victims were sleeping, was engulfed in flames.
Family members attempted to extinguish the fire, but unfortunately, the two occupants could not escape and died inside the structure.
One of the deceased was identified as 54-year-old Nyambe Royd Mutendewa, while the identity of the female victim is still unknown.
The bodies were transported to the mortuary, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
In a separate incident, a 41-year-old Namibian man died following a crocodile attack while fishing in the Chobe River near Mpwezana at Nakabolelwa early on Thursday morning.
The deceased, identified as Puso Busihu, was allegedly removing fishing nets from the river while inside a small canoe when the crocodile attacked him.
It is alleged that Busihu had gone fishing with a 21-year-old male companion and that the two later separated, with Busihu paddling his canoe in a different direction.
While retrieving his fishing nets from the water, a crocodile attacked him and dragged him towards the Botswana side of the river, where it began feeding on his body.
The deceased's body was later retrieved from the crocodile using fishing nets, while the crocodile managed to escape.
Their next of kin have been informed.
