Learners at the Mavuluma Secondary School in Katima Mulilo held a fashion show displaying items they had made as part of the curriculum.
The school introduced a technical science field, made up of home economics, fashion, and textile subjects.
The theme of the second fashion show was "Showcasing our skills through technical subjects."
The Technical Sciences Head of Department, Peter Imasiku, said although the subject is one, it is not merely for fun, but the items will be sent to Windhoek for national assessment.
Imasiku said part of the goal is to teach learners to liberate the fashion sector and have Namibian items dominate the local market in support of the locally made brands just like international products.
Masiliso Sibongo, a fashion and fabric retailer who was part of those showcasing their items, says the final product was worth the struggle to create clothing from scratch.
She encouraged more learners to take up the subject, adding that it is a skill that can lead to self-employment.
A proud Mushe Walubita, who was sporting his own design, said he had been learning since last year and hoped to carry on doing so in order to fulfil his dreams.
The school's management hopes to continue showcasing the learners' hard work annually and help them grow in their skills.
