The Okahao Town Council is faced with a high demand for land in all income categories.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Junias Jakob, in an interview with nbc News, said the town has ample land for both residential and industrial use, but it needs to be served.

As part of its remedial mechanisms, the Council has given 70 erven to the National Housing Enterprise to construct low-cost affordable houses.

The Build Together and the Shack Dwellers Federation were also given 50 erven each to construct houses, while 130 erven were allocated to private developers to cater to middle-to-high income earners.

Jakob says the town council needs to do more to improve business development and attract investors, a move that will also help create job opportunities for the locals.

A lack of funds is, however, hampering the delivery of serviced land as well as compensation for the residents who need to make way for development.

Okahao was proclaimed a town in 2004 and has a population of about 30 thousand inhabitants.
