Hundreds of factory workers at the Tunacor Fishing Company in Walvis Bay staged a demonstration to protest against alleged unfair treatment by management.

The employees allege that they are given warnings without being given a chance to defend themselves, which they say is unfair.

They also claim that they are denied the right to be represented by trade unions during disciplinary hearings.

Employee turnover at the company, they say, is also high and workers are dismissed over minor issues and, in many cases, unfairly. 

The employees are demanding that their employer start appreciating them for the period they have worked for the company.

During the October break, employees are appealing to the management to allow them to return to work on the second of November instead of the 31st of October.

They would also like to be paid on the 28th of October and not later than that.

The company has also allegedly changed its policy and no longer pays employees' severance pay.

The petition was received by the Chief Executive Officer of Tunacor, Gerne Hough.
