The newly completed facilities at Andimba Toivo ya Toivo Secondary School in the Oshana Region were handed over to the Minister of Education, Arts and Culture, Anna Nghipondoka.

The inaugurated facilities include nine new hostel blocks, 40 classrooms, seven laboratories, 47 storerooms, an administration block, a kitchen and dining hall,

The buildings, constructed at a cost of N$160 million, also include staff accommodation, a multipurpose hall, two ablution blocks, a matron's quarters and childcare rooms.

Receiving the facilities, Nghipondoka urged parents, teachers, and learners to take good care of the facilities for future generations.

"As we are proud of and admire our new facilities, allow me at this juncture to make a clarion call to the learners, teachers, school management, parents, regional offices, and the community at large to jealously and fiercely protect and guard our facilities against destruction and vandalism. That will be the only way we can meaningfully show our appreciation and truly allow the legacy of the late Andimba Toivo ya Toivo to live on. Moreover, this beautiful and conducive teaching and learning environment should serve as a springboard to propel you to be more inclined and, ultimately, to greater academic performance come the end of this year and beyond."

Also speaking at the occasion was Oshana Governor, Elia Irimari.

"It is important that we continue building on this foundation in order to address the infrastructure challenge in our educational sector. The school made a significant difference, particularly in Ondangwa town, where the demand for secondary schools is very high. The new school facility will further help to alleviate overcrowding and consequently enhance our regional admission capacity for secondary education."

The YaToivo family was represented by Shali Kamati. "Being a teacher, he felt that it was necessary for learners to have access to good and standard study facilities like this one. In 1975, he appealed to the United Nations Trusteeship Council that the children in Namibia should be educated to prepare them for self-rule because he believed that you cannot run a country if you are not educated."

Andimba Toivo ya Toivo Secondary School accommodates 997 learners.

The former Oluno Secondary School was named after the late Andimaba Toivo ya Toivo in September 2004.
