Some 5,042 police officers will be deployed to 2,521 polling teams, covering 4,677 polling stations countrywide, in preparation for the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Wednesday.
This is according to a joint media statement issued by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) and the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN).
“The deployment aims to ensure safety and security during the polling process and will be complemented by all other members of the security cluster across the country,” the statement read.
It said the police will also intensify public patrols to ensure the safety of voters as they travel to and from polling stations.
Members of the public are further urged to abide by general precautionary measures such as refraining from carrying firearms on the day of elections.
