Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, has praised officers in the Zambezi Region for their commitment to reducing crime.

Some 5,042 police officers will be deployed to 2,521 polling teams, covering 4,677 polling stations countrywide, in preparation for the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Wednesday.

The Women's Action for Development (WAD) conducted a five-day' workshop on gender-based violence (GBV) for male police officers.

The workshop, which was held at Rundu, was attended by members of the force from all the country's 14 regions.

The Keetmanshoop Magistrate's Court has struck off the court roll a murder case in which two police officers were implicated in the death of Elleste Plaatjies.

The Police Inspector General, Joseph Shikongo, has ordered officers in the Ohangwena Region to pull up their socks to deliver effective service to the public.

Two police officers have been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of N$10 000. 

It is alleged that the two officers were part of the operation deployed on the B1 weighbridge mini-roadblock.

The members stopped a vehicle and confiscated contraband items including Yes cigarettes and Whiskey.
