The devastating veld fires in the ||Kharas mountain area are still raging out of control.
On Friday afternoon, farmers, with the assistance of the community, were still battling the inferno that started on Tuesday night.
The fires have so far killed several animals and destroyed an estimated 60-thousand hectares of grazing land, covering about ten farms.
Affected farmers battling the fire told the nbc News crew that with divine intervention they are hopeful of putting out the blaze.
Details surrounding the cause of the fire and where it started still remain sketchy.
Speculations are rife that sparks caused by gravel stones after a vehicle drove over them ignited the fire, according to Jaco Engelbrecht, one of the affected farmers.
"We had learnt that the fire started on top of the mountain near farm Selderus. After getting the news about the fire, I then drove to that area, arriving there at around half-past five. The fire completely destroyed Selderus' farmland, and then Swaertstormlaagte's farmland was completely destroyed."
According to Engelbrecht, farmers will not know the extent of the damage until the veld fires have been completely extinguished.
Karasburg East Constituency Councillor Anseline Beukes, who has been on the ground since the fire started, said assistance from the community across the country was overwhelming.
"We are struggling. We have brought volunteers from Karasburg to manage the fire this side, but as you have seen on the scene, it is very difficult,"
Beukes said the Namibian Defence Force would join the firefighting efforts.
