Farmers in the Omusati Region and beyond are participating in Unam's Ogongo Campus Agricultural annual conference to share and gain experience from different practitioners on agricultural research, innovation, and training opportunities.

Farmers and students were given learning opportunities on improved productivity, food security, and how to deal with environmental and climatic change.

The Head of Academic Affairs and Research, Thomas Benisiu, says a recent survey by integrated food security phase classification indicates that over 428 thousand people are starving, which makes up at least 17 percent of the country's population.

"When you do research, it is because there is a problem, so we are trying to solve the problem, so the aim is to present those solutions which researchers have found out from the different activities they were doing, and our target is that there is a lack of transferring this information to the community and farmers."

Participants attending the two-day event had an opportunity to get involved in discussions, unlike in the past, when researchers would present papers.

They have also benefited from demonstrations on farming equipment, products, and training.

"Next year we will continue with the same strategy, especially involving the community and farmers, because we have really seen this is beneficial to the farmers, and we want to invite all the members of the community and farmers to join us next year so that they don't miss out," added Benisiu.
