The Landless People's Movement must be responsive to remain relevant to the aspirations of Namibians.

This was the view of the party's Deputy Leader, Henny Seibeb, when he addressed the capacity-building conference, being attended by the organising committee members and local authority councillors.

In his address, Seibeb reminded delegates to continuously engage in robust instigation on social issues, as well as hold those in power accountable to the public and help fix any irregularities.

However, Seibeb was quick to point out that all LPM leaders must be guided by the formation's policies at all times.

He says the ongoing conference will empower the party's foot soldiers and office bearers to communicate effectively among each other as well as educate them to work together and create a factionless atmosphere in the movement.

"We are going to be trained on all those avenues, how you differ with your colleagues in a meeting and how you accept majority votes without taking some things personally."

Seibeb, while emphasising the important role government plays, cautioned the Local Authority and Organising Committee members not to be influenced by those who hold such offices.

"No executive director must influence you. No CEO should turn you away. You tell them nonsense."

The deputy leader also spoke about service delivery, encouraging those elected into various political structures to prioritise.

He took a swipe at the Mariental Mayor, who upon enquiry from Seibeb allegedly informed him that the council was in the process of constructing 40 toilets.

"Madam Shereen Kock, the mayor of Mariental, do you respond to the people of Mariental? How many toilets have you built so far? It has been two years now. Who is going to get those 40 toilets and what is the population of Mariental? These are the things that we must interrogate, Mr Chairperson. Are we going to be happy with 40 toilets? Most definitely not."

The conference ends on Friday.
