Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila has reiterated that government doors remain open to all communities to participate in the Nama/Ovaherero genocide reparations consultations.
Addressing traditional leaders in the ||Kharas Region at Keetmanshoop, Kuugongelwa-Amadhila assured them that government has not yet sealed a deal on genocide reparations with Germany.
The Premier informed the traditional leaders that Cabinet agreed to draft a Bill and once it becomes law, it will provide for the establishment of a board that will hear ancestral land claims.
She also indicated that a revised Land Bill is expected to be enacted next year.
"It is not correct that the government has signed a deal with the German government on the genocide, the government door remains open for all our traditional communities that have not been participating to come on board."
Prime Minister Kuugongelwa -Amadhila engaged traditional leaders in the Hardap Region at Gibeon and shared the latter sentiments and information with them.
Traditional leaders in the Hardap raised their concerns, among others, unending chieftaincy succession disputes, which they say impede on socio-economic development within their respective communities.
