The Walvis Bay Motor Club, in conjunction with the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia, hosted leg eight and thus the last of the 2021/2022 national rally championships this past weekend.

The competition was an exciting spectacle for motor enthusiasts until the very last minute. 

The two-day rally consisted of 12 stages, with four stages held on Friday evening and eight stages on Saturday, which covered a total distance of 132 km.

Seventeen drivers and their navigators started the rally on Friday evening in the S1, S2, S3 and S4 classes, as well as in the CR 1 and CR 2 class.

The most exciting rivalry in the National championship was between Allan Martin and Wilro Dippenaar in the S4 class.

Martin just had to start the rally to be crowned championship winner, which he did.

Both Martin and Dippenaar completed the Friday evening stages but did not manage to start on Saturday due to mechanical problems, which created a window of hope for a new rally winner.

Zagory Martin driving in the S2 class and Jandre Dippenaar driving in the CR 2 class were two drivers on a mission to take the win.

In the end, Dippenaar with his off road vehicle was the fastest and won the Swakop rally in a time of one hour and 37 seconds, with Martin in second, two minutes behind Dippenaar. 

Gert Coetzee, also driving in the S2 class, ended in third position.

Seven out of the 17 entries did not finish the rally.

This year's rallies were held at Gobabis, Omaruru, Windhoek, and two held at Swakopmund.

Walvis Bay did not see any action this year, but will host a leg once again next year.
