Communities in the Omaheke Region are encouraged to venture into eco-tourism and agri-tourism-related activities to enhance regional social-economic aspects.

This call was made by leaders at Gobabis during a sustainable tourism roadshow campaign aimed at strengthening management systems and raising awareness on sustainable tourism and promoting new product development at the community level by the Namibia Tourism Board.

The Chief Executive Officer of Namibia Tourism Board, Digu ||Naobeb says that tourism is a growing sector, however citing that each region has its uniqueness,

He said Omaheke has an undiscovered potential in agricultural tourism, from which the local community can tap.

"If you are in a village and there is a campsite, we have to see how you milk the cow, as they need to experience these things."

Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate says the region is a gateway to Botswana and is an ideal opportunity for locals to address unemployment through eco-tourism activities.

The Head of UNESCO in Namibia, Djaffar Mousa-Elkadhum pledged the organization's support for local communities involved in tourism activities.

"I want to insist on innovation and digitalization in the tourism ecosystem fostering sustainable and inclusive growth and strengthening coordination."

The Director at Uakii Wilderness, Uakii Kazapua says that information-sharing sessions such as these are crucial for livestock farmers and identification of opportunities in agritourism.

"Omaheke is not rich in wildlife, or scenery but rich in people-to-people tourism, we are rich in agritourism. where and we need to push for that."
