Close to 800 job seekers at Swakopmund flocked to the head office of the Lighthouse Company Group, to hand in their applications and attend an interview for ten casual posts that are on offer.
The job seekers queued as early as 03h00 in the morning, in the hope to be the first in line to secure an interview and hopefully the job.
The vacancies, advertised a week ago on various social media platforms, are for waitresses, cashiers, hosts, runners and cleaners, amongst others.
nbc News spoke to Stellensia Khoases, who secured position number 431 in the queue.
The single mother of four says she has been job hunting for over 9 years in Swakopmund but has never managed to land a stable job.
She says this year alone she has handed in 31 copies of her CV to various companies, but to date has not been invited for a single interview.
"I am looking for work because of my children's bread so that I can send my kids to school when the school re-opens for next year, so that I can at least buy my children's stationary and uniforms with an open and joyful heart."
Jessica Naobes, another job seeker, says, like other mothers, she is concerned about having to wake up in the wee hours of the morning for the sake of seeking a job.
But what choice do they have.
"If we are only staying at home what will do, it is difficult to access the money for school.
Young job seeker Britney Oxurus is worried that elderly people in line will scoop up jobs she believes should be reserved for the youth.
During the launch of the Erongo Regional Profile , Governor Neville Andre noted that the region's unemployment rate stood at 40 percent, further painting a bleak picture of the forecast economic situation moving forward.
