The Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) has come to the aid of some schools in Kavango that have been struggling with furniture.
The company donated more than 300 chairs and desks worth about N$150,000 to three schools in the region.
The company's manager of corporate communications, Tana Pasat, noted that Namport has an obligation to support Namibian communities.
It is against this background that the company, through its corporate social responsibility drive, contributed more than N$25 million towards the education sector.
"As well as Namport performs financially, we have an obligation to give back to society, and we strive hard to give back to the 14 Namibian communities that we operate in, and the need is dire. We have four strategic pillars that we focus on: health, entrepreneurship, the environment, and education."
The Education Director in the Kavango East Region, Fanuel Kapapero, commended Namport for the donation and called on other entities to emulate this example.
"Namibia is a small country with 2.5 million people, yet the people inside Namibia are poor. That is why I will always say we cannot be poor, and we cannot have our children sitting on the floor when we have abundant natural resources in this country. It is here that we thank Namport and appreciate its contribution to education."
Laghia Nairenge is the principal at one of the receiving schools and thanked Namport on behalf of the beneficiaries. "Today's donation will have a positive impact on our students in schools, contributing to the realization of education's purpose."
