What was meant to be a celebration of love turned into a horror story for two families after a would-be groom set to tie the knot this morning allegedly committed suicide in the early morning hours at Onakatambili village in Oshana region.
It is alleged that the deceased, 41-year-old Petrus Iiyambo, an employee of the Namibian Defense Force with the rank of corporal, was set to get married to his fiancé this morning at Emono Catholic Church in Oshana Region.
Family sources said he woke up in the morning and greeted the family, then shortly thereafter went to his room to put on his wedding tuxedo, where he is believed to have committed suicide.
Upon inquiry as to his whereabouts, as it was getting late for them to depart for church, a family elder went to knock on his door and made the gruesome discovery.
According to a family member of the deceased, the bride’s family had already started with preparations for the wedding, having slaughtered livestock and performing other wedding rituals that take place before couples depart for church.
Iiyambo's family reported him missing to Oshana police and on nbc Katti-FM a fortnight ago after he missed his wedding announcement without communicating with anyone.
He later returned after police launched a missing person’s case and ultimately got to officially announce his wedding as per cultural norms at his fiancé’s church on Sunday.
The late Iiyambo’s family is said to have officially informed the bride and her family of the tragic incident.
Iiyambo’s next of kin have been informed, and police investigations in the matter continue.
