The Namibian Police are appealing to the public to exercise extreme caution when around water sources.

The warning follows increased drowning incidents around the country in the past few days.

Nampol's National Spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, is appealing to all not to underestimate the level and power of water.

In the same vein, Deputy Commissioner Shikwambi urged parents to educate and deter their children from playing in and swimming in rivers and oceans.

On Thursday at Omusati's Onesi, an epileptic 23-year-old named Ndahambelela Fanuel's body was found floating by children in a borehole at Omaenkuzi Village.

On the same day, an eight-year-old boy who was playing with friends at a river in Grysblock, Windhoek, was washed away by a flowing river.

His body has not yet been retrieved.

At Okandombo Village in Kunene, the body of 35-year-old Uaundjuaije Tjiposa was discovered decomposing.

It is alleged that he drowned while crossing the river between Namibia and Angola.

This weekend, an adult man who was allegedly standing on the banks of Goreangab fell and drowned, and in an uncanny event that unfolded, while the police were searching for him, they stumbled upon the body of a female suspected to be between the ages of 13 and 15.

The police are requesting that anyone missing a loved one visit the Windhoek Police Mortuary.

At Onandjaba in Omusati, a 39 year-old Angolan cattle herder, Joao Wacalenda, drowned in an earth dam at Uupale village in Okalongo and was discovered by children.

His clothes, according to a police report, were discovered outside the dam.
