nbc reporter Lucia Nghifindaka and cameraman Jonas Nafimane took to the streets of Windhoek to find out how families and friends are celebrating the new year.

Observably unlike on Christmas day, a place like Goreangab Dam was packed with families and friends celebrating the dawn of the new year, while Paaltjies had fewer visitors welcoming the new year.

Families toast the new year with a variety of drinks and foods, with braai and the famous potato salad among the most popular dishes.

To keep friends and family entertained and in a celebratory mood, there is blaring music of diverse genres, ranging from local to international, as children play in the background.

Beautiful decorations adorned the lunch tables, and happy people were observed everywhere.

To end the day, children wish all Namibians a prosperous and peaceful new year.
