Over 1,000 learners in the Rundu Circuit of the Kavango East Region have not yet secured placement.

The learner registration process has become a cumbersome exercise, especially for parents who have not yet secured placement for learners in grades eight, nine, and ten.

Parents say they lined up as early as six o'clock to go register their children.

Maria Ndumba has tried three schools, and her hopes have been dashed in all instances.

"I did not get a school for my children. I came here to see if my child's name was here, but I did not find it. Back in the day, we used to look for our children's schools ourselves. Now that the school has to look for our children's schools, and we only have to go and look for our children's names, it's become difficult, and some of us haven't bought school uniforms yet because we don't know where our child will be placed."

Magdalena Ndomingo's children have not been registered, and she cannot afford to pay the full amount as requested by the school.

"I was at Sauyemwa school, and the teacher told me that unless I talk to the principal, and the principal tells me that my child should go back to Windhoek, I should go to Elia Neromba, and they told me Grade 9 classes are full. I went to Noordgrens, and they also told me the school is full; I live in the village, have three children, and no job; my husband died; I really don't know what to do; I am tired."

Regina Hausiku is another parent who is having difficulty enrolling her children in school.

"The schools are sending our children back because of fees. Imagine that in one house you have four kids and the school is asking you to pay N$300 for each child, and I still have to buy a branded school uniform for N$350, and I still have to buy books, and one book is N$25. Imagine this is all on one person."

Kavango East Region Education Director, Fanuel Kapapero, says his office has already found a solution and learners will be informed on the way forward on Wednesday from the circuit office.
