Desperate parents from across the country have flocked to schools in the hopes of finding a place for their children.

More than 1,000 students in the Rundu Circuit who did not receive school placement will begin school in one week.

The Director of Education, Arts, and Culture in the Kavango East Region, Fanuel Kapapero, addressed learners and parents at Rundu Secondary School on the way forward.

Kapapero assured parents that a solution had been found.

"For the past years, principals and teachers tried their level best, even during COVID-19, to have learners in classes. Schools like Ndama, Kehemu, and Ruben Makaranga have 60 to 80 learners in one classroom. And just as the inspector explained, that's what prompted the problem of no school for some learners because we have a lot of learners and fewer classes."

Kapapero says learners will attend classes in tents for the time being.

"We have an idea in which we have already found land right next to the circuit office where we will construct classrooms, which we will call the Rundu Project School. Building a school will take us some time, but hopefully, by March it will be complete. In the meantime, we will use tents. I will have a meeting with the principals to find a place where we will erect the tents while the school is being constructed."

Kapapero assured the parents that their children will only attend classes in the tents for a short period as they will construct classrooms for the learners.

Kapapero says the tents might be available by Wednesday next week.

Parents are, however, not happy that their children will have to stay home for a week with no school. Some parents are worried that proper teaching and learning will take place as it is the rainy season.
