The SADC Organ on Politics, Defense, and Security says the SADC Mission in Mozambique has instituted investigations into a video clip in which soldiers are seen throwing the bodies of deceased people into a pile of burning rubble.

The video has since gone viral, sparking condemnation from different quarters of society in SADC.

The chairperson of the Organ and Namibian President Hage Geingob says the region does not condone the acts shown in the viral video.

President Geingob, in his capacity as chairperson of the Organ, says once the investigations are completed, SADC will take appropriate measures in line with the international Law of Armed Conflict.

He says SAMIM Force has always conducted itself in a professional, efficient, and responsible manner, in line with applicable laws and rules of engagement that govern its operations.

The President reiterated that SADC will continue to support Mozambique through SAMIM to combat terrorism and acts of violent extremism in Cabo Delgado Province.

The aim, Dr. Geingob says, is to restore security to create a secure environment and pave the way for the sustainable development of Mozambique and the SADC region.

SAMIM, since its deployment on July 15, last year, has seen tremendous improvement in the humanitarian and security situation, including the return of internally displaced persons to their areas of origin.
