Residents of the Aus settlement in the ||Kharas Region are still experiencing water troubles.

Their borehole has dried up as a result of inadequate underground water.

ǃNamiǂNûs Constituency Councillor Suzan Ndjaleka has called on residents to be patient as her office seeks a lasting solution to the settlement's water woes. 

She said the low water supply at the settlement, which resulted in residents' water being rationed during certain hours, has adversely affected ongoing community brick-making and shack dwellers' upliftment projects.

"The water level at Aus is at 40%, the water resource is very low, and we are very worried as it is a disaster. We are waiting for NamWater to do the pipe installation from the new borehole that was drilled during the drought relief, so we are actually calling on NamWater to respond very fast as some of the community projects are put on hold, we have the water to drink and for our daily use, and it is quite a disaster."

Meanwhile, a foreign-based non-governmental organization, Life Needs Water, has indicated that it intends to assist the constituency office in efforts to end the settlement's water troubles.
 
A delegation from the NGO conducted a fact-finding mission last year, investigating and proposing remedies to the water crisis.

Another delegation that should be accompanied by water experts is to visit Aus during the first week of February to assess and draw up a water plan.

"On the other hand, the constituency office has partners on board, international partners, who will help us to restore and drill new boreholes. The old boreholes and water boreholes are beyond repair, so the assistance will be highly appreciated from NamWater if it acts very fast."

The tiny settlement of Aus has a population of more than 1,000 residents.
