The manager at the Musese Green Scheme in the Kavango West, Winfried Metzger, is optimistic about a good harvest this year, despite constant power outages.

Poor rainfall during the planting forced the project to rely on machinery for watering the maize almost on a daily basis.

Another challenge, he says, is the electricity, which was needed to keep the machinery in operation. He says power interruptions left crops without water for up to six hours a day.

Metzger is disappointed at the constant power outages, especially during the critical time of planting.

The green scheme produces sifted and unsifted maize meals while also producing maize for the school feeding program.

Metzger said he is willing to make positive changes that will see high production, improved working conditions, and staff accommodation during his seven-year term.
