Some schools are said to be refusing to enroll learners who are unable to pay school development funds.

This is despite a call by the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture NOT to send learners back home because of a lack of finances.

An unemployed mother who preferred to be anonymous approached the |Khomas Regional Office to ask for assistance in school contribution to the tune of N$ 800 at Michelle Mclean Primary School, for her Grade one daughter.

An employee at the regional office and the founder of the Otjomuise Rising Stars youth group took up the matter and went with the mother to the school to enquire about other options to have the child admitted.

Upon inquiry, the leadership revealed an alternative offered by another parent to clean the school garden and playground.

The mother was given the option to clean the school and have the funds directed to her child's admission.

During the weekend, the youth group and some family members came to the rescue of the mother and assisted in cleaning up.  

Nelson  Shipandeni the Founder of  Otjomuise Rising Star revealed that the mother does not have any money and the father of her child receives barely two thousand dollars.

The child who was on the waiting list and got an open space after one of the parents removed their child from school, is starting school on Monday and the mother is grateful to the youth group that came to her rescue.
