The Deputy Minister of Education, Arts, and Culture, Faustina Caley, is steadfast in her argument that there is no need for additional legislation concerning the provision of free sanitary materials to schoolgirls.

Caley was ready to provide reasons for her objection in the National Assembly on Wednesday, but the Speaker told her that she is under no obligation in terms of the rules of the house.

Her objection speech to PDM President McHenry Venaani's bill for the provision of sanitary pads to schoolgirls has now been distributed.

The Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture (MoEAC), in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), hosted a public discussion on social protection for Namibian artists and cultural professionals.

Social protection for artists and cultural professionals aligns with the UNESCO 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, to which Namibia is a signatory.

Namibia, WFP celebrate African School Feeding Day

Namibia, in collaboration with the World Feeding Program, celebrated African School Feeding Day on March 1st.

The Ministry of Education, Art, and Culture allocated N$89 million in this year's budget, which is currently being debated in the National Assembly, towards the School Feeding Program.

The allocation, the ministry said in a statement, is to buy maize blend for about N$500 million worth of children in 1,500 schools countrywide.

The program is primarily aimed at providing food to vulnerable learners and those from food-insecure households.

The Directorate of Education Arts and Culture in the Kavango West has embarked on a strategy aimed at improving academic performance in the region.
Education Director Pontinus Musore says all stakeholders must have a role to play if a turnaround will be realized.

Education Ministry agrees to reduce learner to teacher ratio

The Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture (MoEAC) has agreed to reduce the ratio of learners per teacher for the 2023 academic year.

A letter issued to Nampa on Tuesday signed by MoEAC Executive Director Sanet Steenkamp said this comes after the ministry and the Namibia National Teacher Union (Nantu) in a meeting on Friday mutually resolved to reduce learners per class following mutual concern about the poor performance in the 2022 Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary Level and Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Advanced Subsidiary Level examinations.

Teaching at Onghala and Shingunguma Primary Schools suspended

The Directorate of Education, Arts, and Culture in Ohangwena Region has suspended teaching at the Onghala and Shingunguma Primary Schools as the flood waters are reportedly rising in the area.

A total of six schools have been affected by the floods.

These are Ndilokelwa, Shingunguma, Ohaingu, Onghala, and Onyofi Combined Schools, as well as Uudjombala Senior Secondary School.
