Residents of Keetmanshoop joined by NEFF activist Michael Amushelelo marched to the Magistrates' Court to demand justice for 31-year-old Elleste Plaatjies, who was allegedly killed by police officers.

The protestors handed a petition over to the Magistrate's Control Prosecutor, Lewis Chigunwe opposing the granting of bail to two police officers arrested in connection with Plaatjies' murder. 

They maintain that if the police officers are released on bail, they may influence the ongoing police investigation into the murder case. 

NEFF's Michael Amushelelo stressed that the refusal of bail, sends a strong warning to all the uniformed members of the Namibian Police that police brutality against unarmed civilians will not be tolerated in a democratic society that values and cherishes human life, the court places an important role in ensuring that justice is served for the family and community of Keetmanshoop: 

The protestors also handed over a petition to ||Kharas Police Regional Commander, Commissioner Marius Katamila.

Both Chigunwe and Katamila assured the protestors that their petition will be forwarded to the relevant authorities. 

After the handing over of the petition, a war of words erupted between the regional police boss and Amushelelo after the latter allegedly hurled a veiled threat to police officers.
