The First National Bank of Namibia has inaugurated a science laboratory at Kanono Combined School in the Zambezi Region.

The fully equipped science laboratory will enhance teaching and learning in science subjects at the school.

FNB's Katima Mulilo branch manager, Reagan Kwala, emphasized that the world is rapidly changing and that science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are at the forefront of development.

Kwala noted that Namibia needs young people to pursue studies in science subjects in order to lessen the impact of the socio-economic challenges faced.

"We are proud to be part of this project that we believe will go a long way towards helping the Kanono Combine School discover the next generation of scientists, engineers, and mathematicians who will help move Namibia forward."

He says having access to a well-equipped laboratory helps learners achieve good academic results in science-related subjects.

"Science is fascinating, as it keeps us working to build a better world. I have no doubt that this science lab will assist learners in understanding and implementing science in a practical manner."

Rosco Lukubwe, an education inspector, also spoke on behalf of the regional education director.

Lukuwe said as the country drives toward Vision 2030, the provided science equipment is one of the enablers.

"We need to grow, and the growth of any country is determined by its people. And science is an area that will take us there. This is not to say the other disciplines or subjects are not very important, but if we are to create something, if we are to make something like a boat or a trailer, science is critical to that."

Lukubwe appealed to teachers and learners to put the equipment to good use.

Kanono Combined School, opened 63 years ago, is one of the oldest schools in the Zambezi Region, with a current enrolment of 539 learners.
