The World Cricket League’s Division 2 will be hosted in Namibia from the 8th to the 15th of February and the Namibian national team thus received their National Colours from Namibia Sports Commission on Monday. Handing over the National Colours to the Namibian Cricket team, Namibia Sports Commission Chief Administrator Freddy Mwiya said they should establish and maintain high standards to represent the country with pride. “I would like to congratulate the team for the hard work they put in during the preparation for this tournament. Since we are the hosts, let us show our opponents who we are. I trust and believe that with dedication and hard work we will be able to go far, “ he said. Mwiya also told Cricket Namibia to make sure that cricket is introduced to more regions in the country, despite the challenges of not having enough resources and money. Receiving the national colours, Cricket Namibia CEO Peter Forster thanked the Namibia Sports Commission and said that they indeed plan to fill Namibians with pride. “Our team has been hard at work, we have been having training twice a day. Since we are playing against very strong teams, it is important to keep fit and stay focused,” Forster explained. The top two nations will go through to the final World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe in March, and with six strong nations taking part, the competition will be fierce. Besides Namibia, the other competing nations are Kenya, Canada, Oman, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates. Namibia will play their opening game against Nepal on the 8th of February to be followed by an encounter with Oman on the 9th of February.
