ELS WINS WORLD FIELD ARCHERY TITLE

Namibian archer Jolien Els won a gold medal and became Archery World Champion in New South Wales (NSW), Australia recently. Archers Jolien Els and Beanta Viviers represented Namibia at the 2016 World Field Archery Championship in Australia, where participants from 16 countries and 625 archers in 110 different divisions and categories displayed their skills. Els was the first participant in a new class, which is known as the youth /adult female bow hunter unlimited category for eighteen to nineteen year olds that was introduced by the International Federation of Archery Association in 2015. Beanta Viviers competed in the Adult Female Freestyle Unlimited (AFFU) class and finished eighth out of 16 participants. The competition, which started on the 25th of last month, had to be suspended for several days after some heavy rains, but after two days shooting continued. Competition was eventual cancelled for the 4th and 5th days of play once again, due to more heavy rains and flood warnings for the area. Ultimately, both Namibian archers did extremely well, and built more confidence to represent Namibia at the next WFAC to be held in South Africa in 2018. Els is expected to feature in more international events in the future, as she will participate in the adult class next year at the Africa Federation championships, which will be hosted by Namibia at Heja Lodge next year. The two Namibian archers will return to Windhoek on the 11th of this month.
