The sixth edition of the annual Remembrance Charity Cup of Netball and Football took place on Saturday at the Katutura Youth Complex in Windhoek. The Dream Team consisted of players from Nama location, while Russian Eleven is based at Damara location in Katutura. The aim of the Remembrance Charity Cup is to generate funds for communities who can't effort meals and school uniforms. The event started with the men's netball match between Dream Team and Russia XI as they showcased their talent. The Dream Team showed the spectators that they were the best on the occasion as they managed to beat Russia XI by 17 to 5. After the men's Netball game, the ladies Netball encounter started between Dream Team and Russia Eleven, but the match had to, unfortunately, be cancelled due to rain. The event organiser decided that the previous winner Russia XI would retain the title. Before the football started, the spectators were spoiled with music from different artists like Mabusa, Kaptein Tswazi, J and many others. When the football commenced, spectators remembered that Dream Team won for two consecutive years and this time Russia 11 decided that they couldn't go with the cup in 2018. It was thus Russia XI who were dominating on the field. Both teams played well having to go to penalties, where Russia XI won by 4 goals to one. “What we want to achieve, basically is bigger than this. We want to set up our own stadium facilities where we build houses and a school for football. I speak on behalf of the management and committee..." said event organiser Webster Snewe NBC interviewed both team captains on their success. "Last year unfortunately we lost, so today the boys were ready to go and fight and give our supporters a good game. I wish to win but in the end it's all about sportsmanship. From the funds that we raise we are going to look at creating a trust fund to help these kids, to take them off the streets. In Katutura, it's difficult - every second house is a shebeen and the drug abuse in Katutura is very high” said Mabos Vries. “We want to win, but the main aim is to commemorate the past people who were part of this project” said Jeffrey Roman, the captain of Dream Team. The event organisers are now planning to hold this kind of event every third month in a year to bring people together and unite them through sports.
