Lucky Star attracts runners from far and wide

By: Trimo Herbst The annual Lucky Star Marathon - which took place over the weekend at the coast - saw a record number of entries with more than 1000 participants competing. The Lucky Star event is Namibia’s premier coastal sporting event and has been in existence since 1985. The marathon serves as a qualifier for the Two Oceans and Comrades marathons in South Africa. The event includes a full marathon, a half marathon, a 10km fun run and school relay event. Participants from neighbouring South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and further afield including Germany, United Kingdom, USA, Japan and Portugal all gave their best during the legendary run. Vilho Paulus won the race in 02:19:41 to take the men’s title, while Ottilie Aimwata won thewomen’s race in a time of 02:50:22. This year was the last year that the event took place under the Lucky Star banner but the event organisers have already assured prospective participants that the event will be back under new sponsorship next year.
