The Namibia Football Players Union (NAFPU) is concerned about the contracts of players that are partaking in the Debmarine Namibia Cup. Established in 2007, the Namibia Football Players Union's mission is to protect the employment rights of football players in the country. The Union's President, Lolo Goraseb, says they are worried about those who are playing in the Debmarine Cup. Goraseb, who is a former football player himself, believes that most of these clubs have already failed and breached the contract of players in the past. He was responding to questions on the division of Namibia Premier League (NPL) clubs to participate in the NFA organised competition, the Debmarine Cup. Some NPL teams are taking part in the competition, while others refuse, citing lack of time for players' preparations. “We have no intension in getting in NFA/NPL political issues, it’s not our business. We are worried about players of teams that are participating in the Debmarine Competition. How does their contract look like? Do they have short term contracts or is it amateur system? What will happen to their contracts if their teams loose the first games?" questioned Goraseb. The Union’ boss further promised to contact the NFA to find out about players' contracts for this specific competition. According to Goraseb, they are still appealing for NFA and NPL leadership to engage them.
