Namibia will host the Africa Region Five Sport Conference at Swakopmund from the 26th of October until the 5th of November. The Africa Region Five Sport Conference will see about 60 delegates mapping out the future of sport and electing a new executive. The region five member countries are Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe and host Namibia. According to the Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, Walter //Haseb, the conference will be attended by Chief Executive Officers of Sports Councils and Commissions, Chairpersons of the Sports Councils and Directors of Sport from member countries. Namibia provides the chair of the executive, with long-serving sport administrator Dr. Vetembuavi Veii as chairman. Veii will be standing for re-election again. A lack of region five member countries' participation at especially the Confederation of Schools Sport Associations of Southern Africa - COSSASA competitions - has been long discussed among regular members and might be further elaborated on during the Conference. “ If we are talking about COSSASA we are talking about schools sports and in terms of the school's sports, the only way that we are going to develop and increase the competition in schools sports is that if all the Region Five countries can partake in COSSASA Games. And by doing that developing the sports and by doing that also increase the quality of the COSSASA Games “ According to //Haseb, one of the reasons for taking the conference to Swakopmund is that the organisers want to promote sport tourism to visiting delegates of the member countries. The conference will have sub meetings that will focus on other areas in sport in the region . The LOC aims at hosting a successful conference that will put Namibia on the map. "What will make me happy in terms of logistical arrangements, administration is that we as a country stand up and show that Namibia can host this type of big events if need be" said //Haseb The delegates are expected to start arriving as of Tuesday next week.
