Nestor awarded at the WBO Convention

Namibia’s leading boxing promoter Nestor Tobias has been awarded the WBO Best African Promoter award at the 29th World Boxing Organisation Convention underway in Puerto Rico. A media release issued by the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy, states that Tobias, who is currently at the Convention, received the award for his outstanding contribution to boxing, setting up professional bouts, quality of fights, frequency, and entertainment value. In his acceptance speech, Tobias said the award is dedicated to all loyal boxing fans, his academy’s sponsor MTC and to the boxers who are committed to the sport. The WBO Convention in Puerto Rico brings together the world’s leading promoters and champions, and serves as an excellent networking platform. Promoters are given an opportunity to market their fighters and campaign for better world rankings on the basis of merit. According to the press release, Japhet Uutoni, who is the current WBO Jnr Flyweight International champion, will soon get a shot at the world title. Tobias is quoted as saying, “The WBO has now mandated and approved that Uutoni fights any top rated boxer in the world, and this fight will be a final enabler for the world title.” The MTC Sunshine team will leave Puerto Rico tomorrow and head straight to Johannesburg in time for Sacky “Izinyoka” Shikukutu’s fight against Chris van Heerden, which takes place on Saturday at the Emperor’s Palace.
