NFA Women’s Super Cup launched The NFA women’s desk today launched the NFA Super cup, with eight teams expected to participate in the competition, which was established by none other than Jacky Shipanga. The NFA Women’s Super Cup has come into existence thanks to Former Brave Gladiators coach Jacky Shipanga, who used the 10 000 Namibia dollars which came as prize money with her Chairman’s award at this year’s Namibia Sports Awards to start the competition. The idea, according to Shipanga, was to create a competition where the senior players are enabled to play this year. “Competition of this nature will help the girl child develop and deliver results. It does not help if you have the best development centre or high performance centre if you do not expose these players to constant competition.” Said Shipanga. The tournament teams have been paired in two groups with eight teams in total and will start playing this coming weekend at the NFA Technical centre. The tournament started off with Shipanga’s reward, but different pledges from companies and individual have brought the total amount to 61-thousand Namibia dollars. These include Thrupass magazine , Musician Wambuseun, NFA Secretary Barry Rukoro, NFA President Frans Mbidi, TN Mobile and the Namibian Football Players’ Union. The winner of the competition will receive 10 thousand Namibia dollars, while the runners up will get five-thousand. The 3rd and 4th place finishers will get three and two thousand Namibia dollars respectively. The two groups look as follows. Pool A Tura Magic Ladies FC V-Power Angels FC Mighty Erongo FC Oshana Queens Pool B FC Khomas Nampol FC Galz Goals FC Right Way FC Western Angels FC The games will be played this weekend with the finals expected to be the curtain raiser in Gobabis for the Debmarine Namibia Final between Young Africa and Mighty Gunners on the second of December. Brave Gladiators coach Brian Issacks is delighted by the initiative, saying the competition will give him a chance to look at the players. “I am so happy that finally after this I can finally I can see what is the state of the girls. Even when we played in the COSAFA cup the fitness level of the players was below par and I hope this can help me in my preparations.” Said Issacks. Most players taking part in this competition will be in camp throughout the festive season in preparation for the African Nations cup qualifier against Zimbabwe on the 26th of January 2018. Entry fee for the games is N$5.00 per person.
