NSC not happy with sport awards nominees

The Namibia Sports Commission says there is a serious concern regarding federations that did not submit applications for the annual sports awards on time. Athletes and administrators’ hard work will be recognised on the 30th of October 2016 at this year’s Namibia Sports Commission Awards. The period of consideration of athletes’ performances was between September 2015 and September 2016. Federations had to nominate their athletes and administrators in 22 categories. However, the commission raised concern over federations that did not submit their nominees’applications before the deadline. “Nominations came in on the very last day. Some of them came on Friday, very much closer after we closed the nomination. We closed officially after 14h00 but we had to allow the process to continue because without the nominees, we cannot have this event.” Said Chainda. Chainda said the federations had more than a month to submit their nominee applications. He thanked those who submitted their nominations while also requesting an explanation from federations that failed to do so. “We are going through the process of screening received nominations that have come through, making sure all the requirements are within the process, are fulfilled.” The final nomination list was handed over to the judges yesterday, with the finalists supposed to be announced on the 10th of October. Chainda called on the public and private sector to buy tickets to witness the event, which honours the athletes . Tickets are available at CompuTicket for N$ per person and N$15 000 for corporate tables.
