Three local boxing promoters Nestor Tobias, Anita Tjombe and Kinda Nagolo have accused the new Boxing Control Board chairperson, Ellison Hijarunguru, of being unfit to run the office, and called for his resignation. The trio addressed a joint press conference in Windhoek today (8 November 2016) and talked about various challenges relating to the Boxing Control Board, which according to them, will cripple the sport if no urgent intervention takes place. Leading boxing promoter Tobias urged the boxing control board to work together with all boxing promoters for the sake of further developing the much-loved sport code. “There can be no board , if there are no Promoters, and there can be no structures in boxing if there is no board and we therefore need each other, whether we like it or not. The boxing control board is not the bosses of promoters, we are their clients, and they are just our regulators” Says Tobias. Iron Lady Promotions’ boss Tjombe had no good words for the new boxing board Chairperson Ellison Hijarunguru, whom she labelled as unprofessional and inconsistent. She also accused him of running the board single-handedly. “It is through our efforts that we pay sanctions fees to the board. We as promoters are therefore their biggest customers and we deserve the utmost respect from them. I have taken note of the boxing board chairperson latest remarks calling me stupid blonde. We find such behaviour unacceptable and demand an apology” Fumed Tjombe. Kinda Nangolo of Kinda Promotions also came out in support of his fellow promoters. I received a letter from the board threatening to suspend my boxing license, due to outstanding fees owed to one boxer, while Hijarunguru is the one owing us money. Hijarunguru is unfit to run the boxing board office.” Contacted to comment on the allegations, Hijarunguru accompanied by his deputy refuted the allegations saying the promoters in question do not want to play by the rules. “They try to sensationalise this thing running to the media, calling me to resign they are the ones that must resign from their academies as they are trying to stage fights while their boxers are medically unfit"
