Street Cricket takes over Windhoek

Street Cricket is the brainchild of Cricket Namibia under its FNB-sponsored Kwata brand. The idea behind it is to bring cricket to young players in settlement areas. The programme uses the game to promote social cohesion and create opportunities in diverse communities affected by anti-social behavior and youth crime. It is against this background that the new initiative was introduced to youngsters at the Hakahana Market and Otjomuise open area in Windhoek this week. The Street Cricket programme is envisaged to become an annual occurrence during the May holiday. Development Facilitator at Cricket Namibia, John Ambuga said the response has been great. It is probably just a matter of time before the youngsters get their right footing in the game of cricket.
